2001 SUMMER REGISTRATION

In the next few weeks, OCUA will be releasing information on 
the new summer league registration timelines and procedures for 
2001. We will be distributing this information via Ultimate 
Happenings, the web, and by a physical mail-out to all existing 
team captains based on last year's registration information. As 
a result, it is very important that teams ensure that their 
captain has submitted up to date contact information by the Jan 
19 mail out date. Your team's spot in the league will depend on 
you being aware of the new procedures, and taking the 
appropriate action. 

Captains, and any other member wishing to update their contact 
information can do so via the website, at:

We are currently editing the draft procedures, and will 
distribute them ASAP. Watch future editions of Ultimate 
Happenings, as there are some fairly significant changes 
involved.

CANADIAN HIGH SCHOOL ULTIMATE CLINICS

The following message has been circling around the ultimate 
community the last few weeks, and it looks as though it is 
certainly something that we'd like a number of people here in 
Ottawa to get involved with:

Hey Ultimate Players...Hope everyone is having a great New 
Year's so far! 

For those of you who know me, know that I work in the marketing 
biz and am always promoting or marketing something. Well, it 
about time but one of my clients - yes, the famous beverage 
company..Coca-Cola..(Powerade to be exact) has decided to come 
into our world. I am looking for ultimate players across Canada 
to help run ULTIMATE CLINICS in HIGH SCHOOLS. The reason I am 
writing to the forum is to see if anyone could recommend 
friends or teammates that may be interested in instructing. 
Although Vancouver already has its fair share of candidates..if 
anyone knows people in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, NB, 
NS, PEI etc. (all provinces), please pass their names onto me. 
I am looking for people with excellent ultimate skills, can 
work with kids, and has experience in coaching. I am looking to 
run approx. 60 clinics across Canada. Each instructor will be 
paid approx. $75-90 / day to have fun and play ultimate!!!

the following additional information:

Hi Everyone, 

Thank you so much for all the interest!  Although the clinics 
will not start until April-May 2001, I am happy to receive all 
your emails now.  As mentioned in my initial email, I am 
looking at setting up 60 clinics across Canada however, it is 
indefinite as to how many clinics will take place in each city.  
It is also indefinite as to which cities will be chosen for 
clinics.  When the program dates are closer, this information 
as well as more details will be confirmed.  For now, I am 
evaluating all the interested candidates for the month of Jan 
and early Feb.  For those of you who have emailed me, please 
send me your resume with all your ultimate experience and other 
background information.  Also include any references names, 
letters, videos, etc. (something that will give me an idea of 
your skill level). The cut off date for resume entries will be 
March 1, 2001.

PS.  All clinics will run on weekdays, during school hours 
(approx. 9-3pm). NOT WEEKENDS.

Interested parties should contact Mica directly, but I would 
appreciate it if you could copy me as well, just so we can make 
sure that we have good participation from Ottawa on this. It 
looks like a great initiative, and I'm sure that the juniors in 
our area would be keen to see this happen, as it's bound to 
help growth of the sport at the junior level. I know we have 
plenty of people here who would be well qualified, so if you 
can spare the time, please volunteer!

KID'S ULTIMATE LEAGUE

Thanks to everyone for their emails! Sorry about the lack of 
reminder of the last meeting, I was computerless for some time. 
We will be having another meeting about organizing a Kid's 
Ultimate league next Thursday (January 25) at Broadway's on 
Prince of Wales. If you are interested, please email Karen 
Lange at kids@ocua.ca to be added to the Kid's Ultimate League 
distribution list. To everyone who has already emailed me, I 
will be sending you information which should answer most of 
your questions in the next couple of days! Looking forward to

WINTER ULTIMATE SCORES AVAILABLE

Scores, schedules and standings are now available on the web 
for the Wednesday Indoor League.  They are accessible via the 
main winter league page.

PARTY TIME!

An unofficial gathering of like-minded individuals of various 
disc persuasions will gather Jan 27th at the Rainbow Bistro 
to boogie to Mumbo Jumbo Voodoo Combo (with the Mighty Popo).
I've rented the hall, hired the band, and will provide some 
snacks. It's up to everyone else to bring their dancin' shoes
and party moods to make it a success.

Two years ago, upon achieving a certain age, I held a huge 
party at the same bar, with the same band and all had a great
time. Given that I'm reluctant to celebrate my birthday two 
years later, we've picked a different cause: a fund raiser 
for the music program at my kids' school (Pleasant Park 
elementary). Five dollars of every $15 ticket goes to this 
worthwhile cause - invest in the boogie bands of the future!!

Please contact me for tickets or more info. Doors open at 8 
and advance purchase is recommended - we did sell out last 
time.
