Yes, Odyssey 2001 is a 10-day International Camp that will draw participants not only from Ottawa Area but also from across Canada and several countries around the world, including Egypt, England, Jamaica, Japan, Mexico, and the Philippines. The camp is open to Girl Guides and Girl Scouts between the ages of 14 and 16 and adult participants, who have a commitment to the values of Guiding and who will be coming to Ottawa for fun, learning, adventure, and new friendships. They will be participating in a variety of activities that are planned specifically for their age group. These include developing camp skills (backwoods gourmet, gigantic gadgets, and munching with Mother Nature), learning about active living (canoeing, cycling, archery, soccer and ultimate), exploring the National Capital Region, participating in "Extreme Adventures" (Whitewater rafting and river boarding), discovering the arts (do as the Inuit do, dancing, and tole painting techniques), and then learning the fine arts of relaxation through the sessions offered during "spa" day (massage therapy and Thai Chi). The camp is expected to be attended by some 100 young women and some 30 adult staff who will lead sessions and keep the camp organized and flowing. There is a great deal of excitement building as we approach the camp's opening on August 13, 2001. The location of the Camp is Girl Guides of Canada, Ottawa Area's very own Camp Woolsey located on Dunrobin road in Dunrobin, Ontario by the Ottawa River. We are still looking for experienced trainers and session leaders for some of our planned activities. It has come to my attention that you may be able to assist us in finding such a resource. We are organizing an Ultimate session and fun tournament on the afternoon of Sunday, August 19, 2001. We have allocated 2 hours and 45 minutes to the session. Our planning concept for this session has been to teach the girls basic Ultimate rules and techniques. Then we expect to move into a round robin tournament that would allow participants to practise what was learned and to have fun. Since the session is very short for a tournament, we had envisaged mini-games similar to the youth mini-soccer format (7 per side - small field). The games could be 20 minutes in length. This would allow for a quasi-tournament experience yet emphasis the fun aspects of the game and fitness generally. The Odyssey Committee would be very happy if you could assist us in finding a session leader(s) for this unique event. We have a Guiding participant who is herself a novice at Ultimate, would be willing to assist on that day. I would be very happy to hear from you in the near future. I can be reached at 946-6586 during regular working hours or at 828- 9761 during the evening. Yours truly, Brigitte Zirger Odyssey 2001 International Camp Programme Committee ************************************************************ DEVELOPMENTAL CLINICS ARE BACK Ottawa waX will be running their developmental clinics again this year.
