Unleashed dogs are common on the sidelines of Ultimate games, and incidents of dogs lunging at players, including children in the kid's league, have been reported. Related to this issue is the matter of dog feces. Some dog owners are still not cleaning up after their dogs, and other dog owners are scooping but then depositing the plastic bags of dog feces in or beside the portable toilets. On June 5th, a posting went out in Ultimate Happenings reminding players that portable toilets are not garbage receptacles. The portable toilet company charges OCUA for the manual removal of plastic bags from the toilets and our OCUA volunteers clean up the bags of dog feces deposited in the tall grass and beside the portable toilets. Both are needless and disgusting jobs. OCUA's position on dogs is: 1. Dogs must be on a leash and securely restrained; 2. Clean up after your dog; and 3. Carry out your dog feces (garbage facilities do not exist at any site). At UP Inc. and the Sod Farm - keep your dog on a leash, clean up after your dog and carry out the garbage. At all other Ultimate sites, dog owners are subject to local by-laws. If dog owners continue to disregard these few simple rules, dogs will be banned from UP Inc. and the Sod Farm. It only takes one or two to ruin a good situation for all other dog owners, so take it upon yourself to remind dog owners of these rules. If you see a dog unleashed, ask the owner to put a leash on and restrain the dog. If you see someone tossing their bag of dog feces beside the porta- pottie, ask them to pick it up and carry it home. OCUA is prepared to impose a complete ban on dogs at the two sites and call in local by-law officers to impose such a ban. Please do not force the BoD to impose this ban - act responsibly now. While the majority of our membership is responsible and considerate, even one dog lunging at a child or one incidence of picking up bags of old dog feces is one experience too many. ************************************************************ 17TH ANNUAL NO BORDERS ULTIMATE TOURNAMENT Just a reminder that this weekend is NO BORDERS, our premiere tournament of the year. This is your chance to check out some fantastic ultimate, as some of the best competitive teams from Eastern Canada and the Northeastern US battle it out for the chance to call the No Borders title their own. Once again the tournament is being held at our UP Inc. facility, and runs 9:30 to 6pm on Saturday, and 10 until 5pm on Sunday... and of course, don't forget the legendary party saturday night (see details below) - always a fantastic time. We encourage everyone to come down and enjoy the festive atmosphere from the sidelines or the beer garden, and cheer on our Ottawa teams. If you can't make it down, watch for media coverage in the papers, as well as footage on the New RO. Finally, a reminder to carpool if you can - as you know, parking is limited! ************************************************************ NO BORDERS PARTY The Show (beside On Tap) 128 York St. in the Market Band is Bubbles Cash & The Rythm method 10:00pm onwards Everyone is invited! ************************************************************ FOUND GLASSES Found 1 pair of ladies Vogue brown metal rim glasses at UPI Wed 18 July at UPI 16. shubhobiswas@yahoo.com ************************************************************ CALENDAR OF EVENTS: 2001/07/21-22 : No Borders (Ottawa, ON) 2001/07/28-29 : Parlee Beach (Shediac, NB) 2001/08/11-12 : Catch 'n Release (Halifax, NS) 2001/08/16-19 : Nationals (Edmonton, AB) 2001/08/18 : OCUA Tuesday Playoffs 2001/08/19 : OCUA Thursday Playoffs 2001/08/25 : OCUA Monday Playoffs 2001/08/26 : OCUA Wednesday Playoffs 2001/09/29 : Ottawa 'Plaid Jacket' Open Disc Golf Tourney 2001/10/27-28 : 9th Annual Pumpkin Pull (Victoria, BC) 2001/??/?? : Women's Hat Tourney (Ottawa) 2001/??/??-?? : Fr'equinox (Co-ed, Ottawa ON) 2001/??/??-?? : Unknown Legends (Hamilton, ON) ************************************************************ Ultimate Happenings is an e-mail newsletter for the Ottawa-Carleton Ultimate Association.
