OCUA FALL LEAGUE UPDATE

I now have enough fields confirmed to say that the OCUA fall
league will be a certain go for this year. If you played in
last year's fall league, please e-mail me and let me know if
you intend to return, your spot is reserved until wed 21st.
If you played in PROUF last year don't get confused and sign
up for OCUA Fall; it screws everything up. I have room for a
few new teams and I am taking names for a waiting list now.
I have been asked to see if there is any interest in a fall
competitive pool. This would be open to coed traveling
teams as a way to help them improve. Thanks to Mr. Webb, the
OCUA will also be offering a Friday option played on fields
in the old City of Ottawa.

ULTIMATE IN THE NEWS!

Ultimate has been in the news alot lately and that's been no
accident. There was a feature on ultimate by CJOH sports
anchor Carolyn Waldo last Wednesday that was picked up
nationally by CTV NewsNet as well as extensive local
coverage of the Festival of Discs back in July. Media
coverage has been sought out in hopes that the coverage will
help us to be better understood by the non ultimate playing
community. If the community understands our sport, then they
will be more likely to lend us support when it comes to
matters of field acquisition. Let's face it...it's also fun
to see the sport we love so much featured in the media.
Maybe one day we won't have to spend time trying to explain
what ultimate is when describing what we do for fun.

In brief here's what you can be looking for during the next
few weeks.....

- coverage of the opening ceremonies/media event on Wed. Aug
  21. in the local media. The mayor will be hosting a demo.
game featuring some local Nats. players on the lawn of
city hall (111 Laurier Ave.) at 10:30 am. Come out and
show your support for the local players who will be
  participating at the Nationals.

- the new RO will be doing their Breakfast at the New RO
show live Thursday, Aug. 22 from UP Inc

- local media to cover the tournament Aug. 22-25 (the New
RO, CJOH, the Ottawa Sun, the Ottawa Citizen)

- Rogers Cable 22 Daytime show interview Friday, Aug. 22

- Rogers Cable 22 to film finals Sun. Aug. 25

- Outdoor Life Network to do a piece at finals to air on
  their show titled SWEAT

- local community paper coverage

- X fm's new rock 22 show on Rogers Cable 22 will feature a
Nationals Ultimate countdown (more details to come)

- local media coverage of OCUA finals in September

Stay tuned! I'll post further details when I get them.

THE HILLS ARE ALIVE!

Help us keep them that way.

The Canadian Ski Patrol System is recruiting new members
for the upcoming ski season in the Ottawa/Gatineau region.

The Canadian Ski Patrol System is looking for new
volunteers. Become part of a not-for- profit organization
consisting of more than 6000 volunteers across Canada. In
the Ottawa/Gatineau region, we have more than 400 members
servicing nine ski areas.

You probably know us by our trademark yellow and blue
jackets, sporting a yellow cross on a blue stylized maple
leaf on the back. We are students, professionals, retirees
and everything in between! We are enthusiastic outdoors-men
and -women over the age of 18 who promote safe skiing and
boarding, and provide top-quality first aid services to
injured skiers and boarders. And it doesn't stop there - we
provide first aid services at community events all year
round.

Information and registration sessions will take place at
7:00 p.m. on Tuesday Sept. 3rd and Thursday September 5th,
at the RA Centre on Riverside Drive.

Come find out what we are all about! Where we ski, what we
do, and how you can become part of it all.
