That's right...this Saturday 82 teams will be heading out to the Nepean Equestrian Park to participate in the first annual Spirit 2003 Charity Ultimate Tournament. I'm proud to say that over half of the registered teams are from OCUA! Has your team collected their pledges? FYI...your hard working, dedicated board team (OCUA BoDs) has already earned a lot in pledges....remember the OCUA team with the most pledges gets OCUA prize packs for each player! If you are not playing this Saturday, come out and support ultimate in the community. Besides great games, there will be live bands, great food and a beer tent for your enjoyment. Thanks OCUA players for all the interest and support in this worthwhile event. See ya Saturday! Robin "scoober" Kealey OCUA Director ************************************************************ DAREDEVIL DISC'S LAYOUT FOR LIFE - NEW DATE Layout for Life's long awaited rain date has been set at October 4th. Teams that had registered in the spring were given priority, but there are still lots of places available (although the total number of teams will be capped, so if you are interested please e-mail soon). Here are the details: When: October 4th Where: Sod Farm (Some of UPI will be undergoing fall maintenance) Cost: $225 per team Divisions: Elite, Competitive, and Rec Why: To toss some disc, and most importantly raise some money for cancer research. Other details: 4 games, 4/3 gender ratio. Rec teams will be those that are out to have fun, but aren't necessarily interested in winning. Competitive will be for those teams interested in winning, but may not have the strongest team in the world, whereas the Elite division will be held for the strongest teams in the world (if the strongest teams in the world don't show up teams will be placed in this division at the request of the captain and the review of the TD). There will be a beer tent and a cash BBQ (Again with all money going to the fight against cancer). Field food (bagels, fruit, water) will be provided. Daredevil Discs will be putting on it's Funzone with great prizes being awarded and we will hopefully be getting a radar gun speed measurement set up as well! Come out and see just how fast you can throw a Daredevil Disc! For information, or to register, contact Gavin Thompson gavint@istar.ca ************************************************************ VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR DAREDEVIL DISC'S LAYOUT FOR LIFE Daredevil Disc's Layout for Life tournament needs a few volunteers to help with the game day operations of the tournament. Most of the work is very easy and quite social, also it's all for a very good cause, the fight against cancer. The tournament is Saturday October 4th and volunteers can either volunteer for a half day or for the full day. If you are interested, of have questions about volunteering, please contact Gavin Thompson gavint@istar.ca ************************************************************ OCUA SEASON ENDER BENDER! Don't forget, this Saturday is the summer season ender for OCUA at Barrymore's. Come out and shake your booty! Hope to see ya there! Robin ************************************************************ OCUA VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES OCUA is run by volunteers. Without the time put in by many people, this league wouldn't exist. A couple hours of your time, could make a huge difference. The following is a list of current volunteer openings. Please refer to http://www.ocua.ca/ocua/volunteer.html for details about volunteer openings. Current Volunteer Opportunities: - Social Events Coordinator - Field Cell Volunteers Please email volunteer@ocua.ca if you have any questions, or if you are interested in helping out. Thanks, Julie Thompson OCUA Volunteer Coordinator ************************************************************ PATIO WARMING PARTY Hopefully all of you who would be interested in coming have seen this already... but it's getting close to the time where we need confirmations from those who intend to come, for planning purposes. Since we've been relying on word of mouth/email to pass this along, we figured that posting here was the easiest way to say "If you're coming, let us know!" Lots of people have confirmed so far, so it looks like it should be a blast. Please email president@ocua.ca and kids@ocua.ca with your confirmations. Thanks! Ken & Karen --- Hey all, Well, after the rousing success of our housewarming party in 2000, which featured masses of wine, beer, and beef, we've finally crossed another major milestone - two years after the first preparations, and after much back breaking labour, the back patio is complete! (see http://www.iosphere.net/~klange/patio/index.html for pictures) To celebrate, we'd like to do it all over again - the party that is, not the patio! So, we're renting the pit, and getting another massive hip of prime Alberta beef. Anyone who was at the house warming can tell you that after 10 hours of slow roasting over those coals, there's nothing better. Unfortunately, the tech downturn has left us somewhat less liquid then when we built the house, so we're going to have to charge a nominal fee to help cover costs, and also make a bit of a fundraiser out of it. Any overage will go to an ultimate or disc golf related cause (we haven't decided what yet, but right now we're thinking something in youth development). We'll be doing the standard pot luck for side dishes/appetizers/snacks/desserts - last time there was an amazing amount of food, so the vegetarians don't need to worry (and hey, we should have fresh veggies from the garden). Not sure what we're doing about wine/beer yet. If we sell enough tickets, we may get a keg and/or some wine, we'll keep everyone posted as we get closer. As far as other activities, I hope to set up a disc golf object course around the place, there is a farm next door with all kinds of animals for anyone with kids to check out, and there will definitely be a bonfire. There's also plenty of space for camping if people prefer to crash after drinking the night away. Also, note that we do have a cat and a dog for those who are allergic, but hopefully most of the day/evening should be spent outside. Here are the details as we know them now: Date: Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003 Time: whenever. The beef should be ready by 7pm, but you can show up any time during the day. Where: 1946 Manotick Station Road Cost: $10/head, kids free. What to bring: chair, potluck item (please let us know what you are bringing, chips are acceptable for single guys, except Robb Matz, who must bring one of his standards...), right now BYOB (but that may change) As this is a fairly major investment, please let me know ASAP if you are planning to come or not so that we can plan accordingly. Thanks everyone, and hope to see you in about a month! And remember, if you are planning to come, email me and let me know! Thanks!
