WHO CAN SAVE BABY HALEY?

At 5 months Haley MacDonald of Ottawa, Ontario, was diagnosed
with a rare and fatal illness known as Mucopolysaccharidoses
1H (MHPS 1H) or Hurler's Disease.

Children affected with Hurler's Syndrome rarely live past the
age of 10, however a successful bone marrow transplant will
give the body new white blood cells that can produce the
enzyme necessary for breaking down mucopolysacchrides. A bone
marrow transplant is Haley's only hope to stop the progression
of the disease. Haley is now 14 months and this procedure will
only be carried out before the age of 16 months. To date we
have been unable to relocate a suitable donor on the Unrelated
Bone Marrow Donor Registry.

While anybody could be a suitable donor we are especially
appealing to those communities who have similar ethnic
backgrounds of the parents, to increase the likelihood of a
match. Haley's mother is IRISH/DANISH/UKRANIAN and her father
is IRISH/SCOTTISH.

This appeal is made on behalf of Haley's family in their
personal fight to save Haley's life and also to assist The
Canadian Red Cross in creating awareness for the Unrelated
Bone Marrow Donor Registry.

WE ARE STILL MISSING TEAM FEES AND ROSTERS:

The following teams still owe the OCUA league team fees for
the summer of 1998. If these fees are not paid these teams
will not be able to vote in the upcoming election, may not be
able to play in the upcoming finals and probably will not be
welcome in the league next year. If you belong to one of these
teams please talk to your team-mates and get your money in to
Craig Fielding (729-8715) as soon as possible.

DISC GOLF:

Saturday, the 8th of August, we are installing Ottawa's first
disc golf course. We'll hold some kind of official opening
later (I'm going away for a couple weeks). It's at Jacques
Cartier Park (north), near where we play ultimate.

It's nine holes, and 993 metres long.
Rejoice.
Play it.

I am still selling charter memberships in the ODGClub. The
idea is for members to control the fate of the course. I
would like to see us reimburse the $200 membership fee over
a couple years by raising money through two principal means:
selling golf discs (cheaper to members), and by selling
advertising on future courses (the land purchase site,
opening in the year 2000).

WARNING ABOUT DRINKING BEER AT THE FIELDS:

Last week a team was fined for drinking beer at Riverside.
A fine for $125 dollars was issued to one player. The police
said they could have issued a fine to all of the players who
were there. If you are going to drink at the fields please
keep it as inconspicuous as possible. Lets not lose the use
of our public fields because of this.

CORPORATE TOURNEY CHANGES:

Please note that the Early Registration date for the 2nd
Annual Ultimate Corporate Challenge was changed to August
26th, 1998 and that any team that registers up and to
including then pays $150.00 and after that, $175.00.

Found at the Sod Farm, field #1 (Where House of Representatives
played Ultimate Maritime Madness ). One pair of jeans, Blue
notes brand, size 34 X 34 + 1 t-shirt, white, with mountain -
wilderness type landscape/theme on it.

My apologies to who ever is missing their stuff, it was right
next to my team's, it was getting late, and I just figured it
was someone on my team's.

HOUSEMATE NEEDED:

1 room for rent in 3 bedroom house (other two rooms occupied
by 1 male and 1 female).

The house is located in New Edinburgh, a couple of blocks
from Mountain Equipment Co-op.

For those unfamiliar with the neighbourhood, its a great one!
Close to grocery, hardware and video stores, pubs, coffee
shops & diners, restaurants, pharmacy, etc......

Very close to the Rideau River and the recreational pathways
along it.

20 minute walk to Market; 25 minute walk to University of
Ottawa; next to #4, #5, & #7 bus lines.

The house is a 2 storey, 3 bedroom home with hardwood floors
throughout, has a full basement (unfinished but great for
storing toys!), a new kitchen and bathroom, washer & dryer,
and has parking...

The room to be rented is a good size, is quiet, and gets
great natural light through a big double window (new window).

Rent is $375.00 per month, not including heat & hydro.

The room is available for September 1, 1998.
