The 98 National Masters title came down to an all Ottawa final between DEAD and Wuz Mule (... a sordid alliance between Wuz Wax and Smell My Mule). After a sorry spanking in the round-robin, DEAD was eager for a rematch. After surprising Alberta's "Relics" in the semi- final, DEAD was ready for MULE which coasted past Montreal's "Primitive" in their semis. In a wind-filled final, DEAD took the half 8-6 and waited in anticipation to receive with the wind at their back in the second half. Not to be outdone, Mule scored the up-winder and tied it 8-8 on the next point. In the end, DEAD couldn't quite hang on and bowed to Mule 15-10. So, having won this division in '96 (DEAD), '97 (Mule) and '98 (Mule), it's quite clear that Ottawa Masters are unquestionably king of the geriatric huckers ! ************************************************************ A MOTHRA VIEW OF NATIONALS: (Be sure to ask the bugs about their naked point when you see them at the party!) Hey Ding, I don't know if you've heard yet, but WE ROCK! Ottawa, that is. Both Stella and WAX won!! And Was Mule took the masters title defeating DEAD in the final. The juniors finished 4th. You may remember that the women got spanked by GOO in their pool game 13-3. They played a huck game and the same chick apparently came down with all the points. But on that fateful Sunday morn' when I drug may sorry ass from the bed, I saw Stella's destiny -- there was wind in them there trees! I had a feeling that the wind would create some havoc for the GOO women when they offered up the disc for a long flight, and because Stella plays a solid short game, I figured things may be weighted in their favour. Ironically enough, it was pretty even until STELLA started throwing long to get the disc off of their end zone line. Worked like a charm. They didn't always complete the pass, but they were able to get the D midfield and start putting more points on the board. The WAX game was fun to watch. Lots of good playing all around. Paul Chambers played awesome, but they gave the MVP to Chris Sullivan. Chris, when accepting the trophy, said, "He's gonna beat me up," referring to Paul Chambers. Nikki got the MVP for the women. Perhaps they should have given it to the GOO chick who threw a 30 yard (no exaggeration) SCOOBER from her endzone line to an open popper across the field and over Stella's zone defence. That was incredible. Andre. PS. All the games including the finals were soft capped. And we got the bid for next years Nationals. (!!!) ************************************************************ FALL LEAGUE '98 - REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Registration Dates: Sept. 1st - 11th ( by e-mail ) Season Starts: Sunday Sept. 13th Ends: Either Oct. 31st or Nov. 7th (Approx. number of games 10-12) Season ending party @ Cave on Nov. 7th. LEAGUE FEES: $300.00* *P.R.O.U.F. has raised the fees from $200.00 to $300.00 this year with the intention of supporting O.C.U.A in their 'land purchase/Irrigation instalment'. The extra $100.00 increase will be used to support these projects. (If you feel strongly about this increase please call me and I will be glad to listen your objections) LEVELS OF PLAY: There will be two levels of play this year. Teams will rise or fall according to their play. i.e. If you keep winning you will be scheduled against other teams that are doing equally as well. The same if you don't fair so well in games, you will meet other teams that are also being outclassed. ( I'm trying to eliminate 'blowouts' as they are no fun for either team) To achieve this there will be NO FIXED SCHEDULE at the first of the season. Two reasons for this 1) I never know when my lit fields will come available ( other sports are finishing up their summer season in Sept.) 2) Gives me a chance to shuffle teams into better games mid- season. Don't worry everything will be done by e-mail and you will know in plenty of time. How many games are there each week? Teams will play one possibly two games a week in Sept. (field availability) and two games a week in October. {There will be one weeknight game (under the lights) and one weekend game (Afternoon).} WHAT IS AVAILABLE? Monday: Level Two. 4/3. Tuesday: Level One. 5/2 and 4/3. Women's Wednesday: Level One. 5/2 and 4/3. Thursday: Level Two. 5/2. Friday: Level Two. 5/2 and 4/3. Saturday: If teams want to play on Saturdays instead of Sundays please let me know. Women's league also plays on this day. Sunday: Everybody plays on Sunday (if they are not playing on Sat.) HOW DO I REGISTER? Please e-mail me at 668prouf@sympatico.ca Between Sept. 1 and Sept. 11. First come first serve with SPECIAL ATTENTION given to those who PLAYED LAST YEAR and are holding the SAME MONIKER (change moniker take your chances). 'Subject' should read: Fall League '98 Registration. Please include the following in this order: Team Name Team Contact e-mail home phone work phone What weeknight. What level What gender ratio. Weekends... Saturday or Sunday? Pick one. Did this team play last year? Y/N Does 'Level One' or 'Level Two' describe your team? Nota Bene: Certain nights are going to fill up quickly so Register early. I will try to keep everybody posted on a regular basis as to 'What's Up?' with registration. Couple of Questions.
