OCUA LEAGUE SURVEY:

Its now mid-February and your board of directors has been busy
getting ready for the next season. In an attempt to gauge the
views of our membership we have created a survey. We are asking
all members of OCUA to spend a few minutes of their time and
answer a few questions.

The survey is located at http://www.ocua.ca/admin/Survey/survey.html
or can be accessed from the OCUA homepage (http://www.ocua.ca).

We are hoping that this survey will give us a better understanding
of what you like/dislike about OCUA, as well as what you expect
from the league. There are numerous changes happening due to
the size of our league and the creation of our new fields in
South Ottawa; therefore, OCUA wants to be assured that you have
a say in the development of the organisation.

Some of the areas of special interest to the organisers include
captain/coordinator communications, league performance, spirit,
field quality and field location. These questions are reflected
in the survey and will allow us to better serve your needs.

We have included a section for volunteerism. If you are interested
in helping out in one of a variety of areas we would be especially
grateful.

So please take the time to fill out the survey. The information
will be highly effective towards steering the league in a
direction everyone wants.

OCUA LOGO DESIGN CONTEST:

We are looking for a new logo for OCUA and a design for
OCUA discs we are making this spring.

We have decided that the winning entry for the logo will
receive $100 and the winner for the disc design will
also receive $100.

Deadline for submissions: Feb 28, 1999

Mail artwork to:
 Ken Lange
 52B Chesterton Drive
 Nepean, ON K2E 5S9
Or email to:
 kblange@nortelnetworks.com

Feel free to contact Ken for more details at the above
email address, or by phone (h:225-0301).

DESIGN CHECKLIST

- Avoid large solid areas.
- Use black ink.
- Artwork size:
Artwork should be 6 3/4 inch for the 175 gram ultrastar[tm].
Any artwork from 5-8 inches is fine. The closer you are to
  6 3/4 inches the better. Please use 8 1/2" x 11" size paper.
- Two color designs:
Each color of your design must be on a separate piece of
paper, both should be in black ink.
- Registration marks:
For two color designs use registration marks. The easiest
registration mark is an "x" (on both pieces of paper in the
same place). Put the x's in at least three of the corners
(not inside the design but outside the design). Registration
marks allow us to take your artwork apart and line it up
exactly the way you want it.
- Separation between colors.
1/32 of an inch (2.25 pts on computer) is the closest two
colors should be. Most colors will not print over each other
and the separation allows for some movement between the
colors. When you put your two pieces of artwork together,
either on a light table or up against a window (use the
registration marks to put them together), you should see at
the closest points a small crack of light between the colors.

TYPES OF PAPER

White paper:
We prefer all artwork to be on white paper. When creating
your artwork use a high quality, bleed proof paper if possible.
Any paper is acceptable if when you draw on it your black
lines are clean. If your lines bleed or blur try another
 quality paper.

Tracing paper:
Works well as an overlay for two color art.

Acetate & mylar:
Are ok if you have the right pens to draw on them. If you
have a choice we prefer white paper or tracing paper.

Photocopies:
Are acceptable. Use a high quality copy machine. Make sure
the copied art is dark black and the background is white.

Photocopy transparencies:
Do not use. The lines have a tendency to flake off.

Photostats, pmts, photo positives:
Are all acceptable. If your artwork is already on white or
tracing paper you don't have to go to the trouble of getting
 these done.

Photo negatives:
 Not acceptable.

Computer output:
Artwork from a laser, ink jet, or linotronic printer works
well. art on paper or transparencies is fine, but paper is
 preferred.

WINTER PRACTICES FOR WOMEN:

Are you interested in working on your Ultimate skills? All
female Ultimate players are welcome to come to the following
practices (all are Saturdays from 5-7 pm):

Feb 13th at the Bubble (in Lansdowne Park)
Feb 20th at the Bubble (in Lansdowne Park)
Mar 6th and 20th at Algonquin - Woodroffe Campus
Apr 3rd and 17th at Algonquin - Woodroffe Campus

The intent is to get a team prepared to play competitive
Ultimate this summer, but all female Ultimate players are
welcome, whether or not you are sure about competitive
Ultimate. There will be a nominal fee to cover the cost of
gym time. If you are interested in attending or have any
questions, please call Tara Dentry at 731-5690 or email
Manon des Groseilliers at manond@trafficinjuryresearch.com

One last thing: if you are planning to come to the practice,
please bring a black, a white, and an "other" coloured shirt.
Also, be sure that you bring lots of water, particularly to
the next practice since the Bubble has no source of water for
refills. See you there!

WOMEN'S TRAVELLING TEAM - 1999:

Trish Younge and Diana Nunes are starting a new travelling
team, to be named later. We've been approached by a few women
expressing an interest in playing on a team that travels but
who are unable to commit to more than a few weekends. This
team will be an alternative to the competitive teams that
already exist. We would like to be somewhat competitive, but
travel to a few tournaments, and practice on an as needed basis,
prior to a tournament. We are hoping to participate in the
Rochester, JazzFest, No Borders and possibly Clam Bake
Tournaments.

Our goal right now is to get lots of women interested. We
think Ottawa has some amazing talent to offer, which may not
be utilised on any of Ottawa's existing women's travelling
teams. You can indicate if you are interested in playing either
by emailing Diana at nunes@newforce.ca, or by calling either
of us: Diana - 841-6859, Trish - 236-0403. We will be holding
a general meeting around the beginning of March for all those
interested.

Also, please forward this message to anyone else that might
be interested.

Look forward to seeing you on the field!

Trish Younge
Diana Nunes
