MANDATORY CAPTAINS MEETING FOR 1999 SEASON:

Date: Wednesday April 14
Location: Woodroffe High School
Time: 7 - 9 pm

Each team MUST be represented to ensure a spot in their
chosen division. We may have to cap the size of some
divisions so attendance is necessary!

During the first hour your division coordinators will be
talking to all captains interested in their division.

During the second hour we will have one meeting with all
of the captains and will discuss general league business.

We have a lot to discuss and I am sure we all want to get
out as soon as possible. With this in mind please feel free
to send me any questions ahead of time so I may have a chance
to answer them individually or make a point of answering it
specifically during the presentation. This will make the
meeting more efficient.

LEAGUE FEES, MORE INFO:

As discussed in the last issue of Ultimate Happenings
team fees (Due May 1st) are $750 for the 1999 season.
Printing this last issue brought back to my attention
two additional items that must be mentioned before
registration.

Roster Deposit:
Due at registration is a team roster deposit of $25.
This deposit will be returned to each team if that
teams roster is submitted on or before the roster
deadline of May 22nd. This deposit will be returned
by cheque (via postal mail) to be sent out by June 19th.
We need this roster information and have had great
difficulties getting some of this in the past and
feel the need for this deposit. By May 1st we will
have a form available on our website to allow each
team to submit their roster. Further information
to follow.

Cone Buy Back Plan:
Starting this year we are charging a deposit of $5 for
a set of 8 cones given to a team. This deposit will be
returned when the cones are returned in the future.
If anyone has cones from previous years that they are
not using we will buy them at registration for $5. We
initiated this program to eliminate the "cone frenzy"
that happened last year and resulted in some teams not
getting cones. We will have a table at registration for
cone buy back.

Both of the above are in addition to the $750 team fee.

If teams get their rosters in on time and return their
cones then this will result in no additional expenses
for each team.

VOLUNTEERS TO HELP RUN A SCHOOL CLINIC:

Hillcrest and Glebe high schools are putting on a tournament
between their two schools on May 19th. If possible we would
like to run a clinic for the schools 2 to 3 weeks before the
tournament.

An ideal time would be Thursday April 29th after school or
work at Hillcrest. Are there any players (competitive would
be a plus) who would be interested in helping to run this
clinic?

WOMEN'S LEAGUE:

Summer League is fast approaching and Women's League is gearing
up for a really fun season! The captain's meeting is April 14th
and teams are forming and finalizing rosters now.

Are you playing?

Are you not playing because you don't want to commit to another
night? Want to give Women's League a try without committing to
a team? Well, what about being the most welcome person on the
field! What about being a sub!?!

We are developing a sub-list this year so that our Women's
League Team Captains can draw from it when they are going to
be short players. All of our captains will have access to it
and you have the option of playing only the nights you want.

If this interests you, let me know and we'll add your name to
the list. Expect to be called though. We play Thursdays,
sometimes at the Sod farm, otherwise in town. All levels of
ability welcome!

2ND ANNUAL SPORTS INJURY FIRST AID CLINIC:

Saturday, May 1st, 1999 we will be running our second annual
first aid clinic for sports related injuries through St. John
Ambulance. Yes, it's the same day as registration for summer
Ultimate but it only runs until around noon so you can do both. :)

Ever been to a game or tournament and seen someone get injured
but no one had ice or bandages? Ever have that injured person
be you? If I were the injured player I would want to know that
at least one person had some first aid training and supplies
- thus, the course.

The cost is $15/person and we are negotiating a good price for
the first aid kits.

For details please contact Kathy Connelly at
kathandallan@sprint.ca or by phone at 230-6150 (h) or
952-1441 (w)

************************************************************
TAPING CLINIC:

Sunday, May 2nd we will be running our first taping clinic.

What we want to cover in this course is some of the basics for
taping wrists and ankles.

It will run from 8:30 am - 12:00 noon. The cost will be around
$15. I'll know more once the supplies are bought.

For details please contact Kathy Connelly at
kathandallan@sprint.ca or by phone at 230-6150 (h) or
952-1441 (w)

OTTAWA SPORT & LEISURE ASSOCIATION:

It's no surprise that social groups like the Ottawa Sport &
Leisure Association are showing up in every city in Canada
and redefining what it means to be single. Who wants to meet
someone in a nightclub? What about the hazards of a workplace
romance? Even if you are surrounded with good friends, most
people still want to meet new people with whom they share
interests. But in the bustling 90s, the options for meeting
new people are limited. Many people have given up seeking Mr.
or Mrs. Right, and have instead joined social associations
that expand their horizons and their social lives.

This new breed of social group is not the same as a conventional
dating service. Whether you have moved to a new city, or are
just eager to make new friends, these social groups offer an
alternative approach to meeting people. The Ottawa Sport &
Leisure Association emphasizes developing friendships based
on common interests and shared experiences. It is a way for
people to try new activities in a noncompetitive and positive
environment while meeting new people. Group activities also
help reduce the stress and risk of meeting someone new.

Ultimate is a fantastic way to meet people! People are out
having a great time and it is not unheard of to actually speak
to the people on the other team! One of our goals is to recreate
the positive atmosphere found within Ultimate community and
spread it into other sporting & leisure activities.

The Ottawa Sport & Leisure Association is geared for young
single professionals (age 25 - 39), but is not exclusive -
young or older, single or married - all are welcome to join.

Registrations starts April 12, 1999.

OSLA activities begin May 1st, 1999. Activities include:

a.. Ultimate Frisbee - Tuesday night 4/3 league
b.. touch football, horseback riding, rock climbing, in-line
     skating, gymnastics
c.. dog walking in cooperation with the Ottawa Humane Society
d.. monthly restaurant tours, wine and cheese tasting parties
e.. running for dummies course (hoping to improve my Ultimate game!)
f.. reading groups, seminars
g.. skiing, biking and hiking events
h.. regular trips to Mont Tremblant, Merrickville and camping
i.. and so much more
