TO BE UPDATED SHORTLY!
On Saturday, June 11, over 1,500 people will gather at Ottawa’s east-end Shefford Park for the 24rd annual CHEO BBQ. Ottawa-Gatineau’s only volleyball and Ultimate Frisbee event, the CHEO BBQ will see athletes and families play, pledge and win with the hopes of this year raising $75,000 for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).
This year’s BBQ will once again feature an Ultimate Frisbee and beach volleyball tournament, plus a 5km family walk around the streets surrounding the park. Other event festivities include the Wireless Amber Alerts Family Zone, and of course the infamous Bytown Catering barbecue pit, including chicken, sausages, veggie kabobs, hamburgers, hot-dogs and a steak dinner!
In 1993, the CHEO BBQ began as a 15 person backyard gathering organized by Mike Machargo and co-founder Johnny Hunt with a fishbowl was passed around to collect donations for the hospital during the CHEO Telethon. Since then, the CHEO BBQ has grown bigger every year raising a grand total of $500,000 raised for CHEO over 20 years.
The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario is a health care centre dedicated to providing comprehensive care to children and young people in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. CHEO offers a range of medical services for patients from birth through 18 years of age.
