Playoff Rules]
The following is a general overview of rules, regulations, and guidelines that apply to play in the OCUA summer leagues.
Rules Of Play
Captain's Clause
- A game may be played under any variations of the rules agreed upon by the captains of the two teams.
Postponement of Games
- Games can be postponed only with the agreement of both teams concerned
or if dangerous conditions (ie: lightning) exist. Teams are absolutely
expected to postpone the game if lightning is present or imminent
(although teams should wait a period of time (ie. half an hour) to see
if the conditions will blow over). Rain and cold weather are not
valid reasons for postponing games.
- Teams must reschedule postponed games at their earliest convenience.
- Divisional Coordinators are to be informed by the teams concerned of
any postponements.
- Divisional Coordinators may impose a date on both teams that the game
is to be finished by.
Defaulted Games
- A default occurs when one team cannot obtain their opponent's agreement to postpone a game, dangerous conditions do not exist, and there are no overriding exceptional circumstances.
- A team must be able to field at least 6 players and satisfy the divisional
co-ed rule (see below) to be considered not in default.
- Winners of defaulted games will be awarded a score of 6-0.
- Winners of defaulted games are to report the default to the Divisional Coordinator.
- Two consecutive defaults or three overall will likely result in that team being eliminated from future league play, subject to consideration by the General Manager.
Co-ed Play
- Most divisions are co-ed. Teams in "five"-"two" (5/2) divisions can play a maximum of 5 players of the same sex at any one time. Teams in "four"-"three" (4/3) divisions can play a maximum of 4 players of the same sex at any one time.
Regular Season Timecaps
- Due to the varying amount of daylight at different times of the season,
the time cap for games changes each week. Please see 1998 Season Timecaps.
Start Time
- All games start at 6:30pm sharp. For each 5 minute delay after start time the on-time team may score 1 point. If 6 points are awarded in this manner it constitutes a default. It is not a violation of SOTG to count points against a tardy opponent.
Home Team
- One team will be designated as the home team for each game. This team has the responsibility of setting up the field prior to play.
Tie-Breakers
- Each division has the option of ranking teams who are tied based on one of the following methods:
- A. Objective Ranking of Teams
- Number Of Wins
- Head-to-head
- +/- amongst tied teams
- Number of wins amongst tied teams and teams finishing higher in the standings.
- +/- amongst tied teams and teams finishing higher in the standings.
- Number of wins amongst tied teams and teams finishing one level down in the standings.
- +/- amongst tied teams and teams finishing one level down in the standings.
- Roll Pigs
- B. Spirit Ranking Of Teams
- Number Of Wins
- Spirit Ranking
- Roll Pigs
- Notes on Tie-Breakers:
- Neither tie-breaking method permits teams to prosper by pummeling weak teams.
- Divisional Coordinators will announce which tie-breaking method is to be used in their division at the start of the season.
- In a multi-way tie, once a lower level of tie-breaker has been used, then only that level and lower tie-breakers can be used to resolve all remaining ties. For example:
Using the objective method, in a three-way tie that cannot be resolved from head-to-head, once +/- among tied teams is used to determine the top team, then +/- amongst tied teams must be used to break the remaining tie. If the +/- amongst tied teams cannot break these ties, then you must go to the next lower level of tie-breaker.
Playoff Rules
- Playoff Eligibility
- To qualify for playoffs an individual must play 5 games with their teams this year AND be listed on the team roster submitted to the league. Players who join their team after player registration are also eligible provided that they register with the league registrar and meet the 5 game requirement.
- If a team wishes to have an ineligible player play with them during playoffs, they must first secure their opponent's permission.
- Playoff Timecap Rule (in effect only for weekend playoff games)
- When the horn sounds, teams finish the point being played. Then add one (1) to the higher of the two scores and play to that new total. Once the timecap goes into effect, teams no longer need to win by two (2) points.
