Parity statkeeping

Parity virgin checking in...

Is there a primer out there somewhere as to how to best do the stat keeping? I'm sure it's not as challenging as I imagine, and I'm sure I'll get the hang once I've done it a couple times.... 'til then, however:

- I'm not super familiar with other players' names to attribute stats to the right person.

- Not sure how to best keep up with the pace of play if there's a lot of quick disc movement.

- Is a throwaway vs a drop subjective on the statkeeper's part?

- I registered on the Volunteer page but I can't see any of the opportunities to sign up, is that coming soon?

It is super easy, and I say that as someone who is very tentative to do this kind of thing. My first time, I just felt duty bound to do "my part" to the parity community and hope i'd never do it again. Turned out to be fun, easy and a great way to get to know everyone (perk: chirping). Now I regularly volunteer. There are two of you: One person calls the names and actions (I prefer this job) and one person plugs the calls into the device. The page only shows the players on field at that point.

Last year, we could show up for a different game and use the identical program on an device with someone teaching you, as a game happened. Then you were all set for stats keeping your own time slot. Easy.

It may be a slightly different app this year, and no doubt, Kevin Hughes will answer this post for you.

Short version: Keep stats!

Hi Jon,

Thank you for your interest! I have been reaching out to anyone who signed up for this under the volunteer software; however, you did not complete the process. If you select 'Opportunities' and scroll down, you will see shifts under 'Indoor Parity Stat Keeper'.

We are also using this spreadsheet to coordinate shifts a little more easily: https://goo.gl/gfPdCr. This sheet is being used by players in the league and by volunteers such as yourself – you can also clarify here if you wish to volunteer from 7pm to 11:20pm, or just for a game or two. We could definitely use your help for the later shift tonight, I recommend coming a bit earlier, a little after 9pm and having the two experienced stat keepers, Al and Sandra, show you the ropes.

Thanks,
Sam
