Parity is Great Again! We did it, guys! But, much like your hair, keeping a green lawn, or Democracy, we must be ever vigilant! Keeping something like Parity great is grueling like going 12 rounds in a heavy weight title bout. If we waver in our commitment to greatness, if we ever shy away from the responsibility we have as Parity-ers to Parity the best Parity we can, our greatness will be lost.
The Redraft
So a redraft happened. Did anyone else notice this? I did, and I did some really boring and entirely meaningless "analysis" of the draft (
which you can find here)
A few notes: I only compared players drafted in session 2 to players who were drafted in session 1. All my data is based on the "CK - Redraft Data" sheet, which is a copy of Alex Bush's 2017 Totals sheet taken after game 12 and filtered down to those players I care about. AS is a column Alex Bush uses to sumarize "goals added" and is a players G + A + 0.45D - 0.45Turnover average per game (the 0.45 factor is based on analysis he's done that reveals every turn is worth 0.45G for or against your team, depending).
Teams with large numbers of new players are skewed! I also haven't double checked my numbers so they could be garbage. You've been warned!
HIGHLIGHTS:
My math bleep bloops suggest that Kindha is 3.81G per game better (but this is probably higher given her drafting of Bordage, who is okay at frisbee). She's also projecting to have 20 fewer throwaways (probably entirely related to Al!).
Amos drafted 77 fewer goals, 42 fewer assists, 3 fewer D's... actually he's down across all categories. Touches, completions, throwaways, drops. The worst Lee got worse at real frisbee and worse at Parity. This is basically as bad as his
team name fiasco.
Owen almost did the exact same thing but he at least drafted more assists, plus he drafted his own clone, making his team paradoxical, which is pretty great.
Proulx's team looks likely to take feweer passes but amazingly throw it away and drop it more than when Sina was on the roster. Very counter-intuitive.
Kells has drafted a goal scoring monster, projecting to have 81 more goals, although with 52 fewer assists likely, that might be hard!
Wildgen wiped the floor with the draft. Everything looks better, even the fun stuff. Fewer drops, though.
Boss's numbers are likely skewed the most (like a million new players), so there isn't much to say here except that she drafted the crankiest old man handlers in the league.
And of course, the best for last. Rob Ives. Rob Ives has drafted the most AMAZING TEAM. Like, it's so great. Parity is gonna be huge on Ives' team. The team expects over 5 more goals per game but with an extra 134 total turnovers.... Rob's team went from the least risky to the most risky in a single draft.
OF NOTE: Alessandro Colonnier did not return, so now Alessandro Colantonio is both the best and the worst Alessandro. The joke got more confusing (and more meta!) I'm so happy!
I eagerly await the rest of the season to see just how my pretty crappy analysis turns out!
THE WEEK THAT WAS:
Session 2 Additions: Tom Newman, Stephen Close, Sonny Kim, Rachel Young, Patrick McKelvey, Michael O'Hare, Megan Doyle, Marcus Bordage, Kyle Sprysa, Karen Kavanagh, Josee Guibord, Edwin Wong, Carissa Wong, and Alisha Zhao are all new to the league for this session. Welcome!
Parity Rookies: Tom Newman, Sonny Kim, Rachel Young, Patrick McKelvey, Meagan Doyle, Marcus Bordage, Josee Guibord and Alisha Zhao have never played in the league before. Do they play frisbee or do they play Parity? Can they be convinced that there is a better way? Time will tell.
Ridiculous: Ashlin Kelly had 10 goals on 21 catches. Someone play defense on Ashling. Everyone, play defense on Ashlin, at the same time.
Bright Lights, Big Performance: Kindha wanted advice on her draft and I suggested maybe she take a handsome frontman to add a little stage presence to her gig. She did, and he did not disappoint. 8/2/3/1 in the first week for Hadrian. Of note, 4 of the top 7 players for catches in week 1? Katy Parity players. Katy Parity's new look is really doin' it for her (them).
Hammer Time: Justine threw nothing but hammers for scores to Simon Berry. I think all 5 of her assists were upside down.
Session 2 Throw Aways: The person with the most throw aways in session 2 (so far) is... Ben Piper! I'm counting his sub numbers, he has 6 plus 1 thrown drop. Keep it up and we'll be calling them Esquires.
Layouts Everywhere: Everyone was laying out. No, seriously. Chow was laying out (obvs), I was laying out (not obvs), Jessie and Stacey were laying out at the same time, Al was egregiously laying out to get a D he didn't deserve (and to make up for one he missed). I even saw Sully think about laying out, which is amazing!
Notables:
- Melissa Jess continues to quietly be amazing and put up 4 goals in her first game on a new team, along with 1A and 2AA.
- The new kids play okay frisbee! Alisha had 3/2/4, Josee Guibord had 2/4/2, Marcus went 4/3/3, Newman went 3/2/2/1, and O'Hare went 1/4/3. That's some pretty good frisbee, people!
- Jon Rowe had 6 D-blocks, and was 2 assists from a triple/triple. He also had 3 throw aways which is a kind of triple/triple I think is way more parity.
- Jim has fallen off the goal pace (he has 1, in a single game he now trails Ashlin by 9). Pick it up, bud.
- Nobody emailed me noteworthy anecdotes but Al and Hadrian which makes me :(
Parity! Man, we're pretty great.

Changes Afoot
Thanks for keeping Parity great, Keates. Your draft analysis may not matter much in a week though. After one game, Katy Parity's salary is $724,469 higher than the Lumleysexuals. It was fun playing with Kindha's bleep bloops while it lasted!

This is why you don't try to
This is why you don't try to win the draft. If the salary cap doesn't kill you, the league will conspire against you to gouge your team when it matters most.
Keates doesn't know this. Or he does. Because he started it.

Let's not forget what rookie
Let's not forget what rookie sensation Tom Newman did to parity pro Rob Ives. Faking the hammer throw that Rob fell for hard, spending seconds trying to find the disc. By the time he knew what happened, Rob's mark defence was loose enough for the easy assist and point. 100 parity points for Newman!

An observation:
The 14-14 "game" between lumleysexuals and Kells Angels has the lowest combined score of the Parity calendar and featured 43 throwaways/drops and 22 D'ed discs. Lumley saved a relative $250k team salary in the event, so as far as Parity is concerned, that's a convincing win.
I guess it's an unavoidable consequence of having a patient, calm offense. Swinging the disc and maintaining possession can be punishing... compare the 91 Lumleys' catches+completions with Kells' 202 (comparable to Katy Parity's 203 sans a crushing victory).
Obviously at the end of the day the salary is just a gimmick, but it is certainly most rewarding for teams that play aggressive, take risks, and this in the end contributes to the enjoyment of the sideline hecklers. Hear that GMs? Encourage erratic and reckless behaviour, ultimately it's worth it for you.
