Someone has gone through the player event logs and pulled out all the throwing data for the league. We have splits on who people throw to and how often they do it. We even have a gender breakdown of how women are involved in the league.
Before we continue with this post, and any subsequent conversation, I'd like to throw out a disclaimer. These are just numbers, and it's important not to attach too much meaning to them in isolation. This is a sensitive subject and one that comes up frequently, so let's remember to be nice, and try and listen to the things people are saying so we can understand why they are saying them. Because of the nature of and sensitivity of this subject along with the general goal of Parity (and frisbee) to be inclusive, I'm not going to make everyone's individual numbers available. The point of this is not to finger point or shame-and-blame anyone because these are just numbers, and it's important not to attach too much meaning to them in isolation!
With that said, presented with minimal comment, we have the following league analysis:
Male | Female | Male % | Female % | M % Norm | F % Norm | |
All | 13236 | 5672 | 70.0 | 30.0 | 53.8 | 46.2 |
All Male | 8938 | 4672 | 65.7 | 34.3 | 56.1 | 43.9 |
All Female | 4298 | 1000 | 81.1 | 18.9 | 51.8 | 48.2 |
This table breaks down all throws made in the league. All players threw to men 13236 times, women 5672 times. All players target men/women with a ratio of 70/30. When we normalize that ratio for the number of available targets (4:1 when a woman has the disk, 3:2 when a man has the disk), the ratio becomes about 54/46.
While I'm not going to make people's numbers known, I do think it's worth noting some people who are doing a good job of being inclusive. Let's talk about some of the most woke Parity peoples!
If we control for potential outliers in this data and discard players with under 50 passes (to limit sample size bias), the top 10 players for throwing to women (starting with the best) are:
There are 3 people with exactly 50/50 ratios, after normalizing: Nick Theriault, Heather McCabe, Simon Berry. The 6 closest to 50% who lean towards a womens preference are Trevor Stocki, Ryan Mussell, Nick Vetvut, Jessie Robinson, and An Tran (next up is Brent Burton). The 6 closest to 50% who lean towards a mens preference are Chris Sullivan, Laura Storey, Sandra Hanson, Graham Brown, Kevin Hughes, and Steve Chow.

Handler vs non handler
This is an interesting analysis. What happens when you breakdown these percentages by players who traditionally handle vs those who don't. Those who handle are more likely to cut as bail or cut from mid field and get more touches per game. This means that if there are more female handlers than male handlers in the league, the breakdown will be skewed towards more women being thrown to or vice versa. Essentially, handlers get more touches. So more handlers of one gender could show that there are more of that gender being thrown to but maybe not by choice. It may just be that the handler is getting the disc and not the gender. Are these stats really measuring what we think they're measuring? Also, Keates clearly has a different job than I do. I'm considering quitting my job just so I can keep up with the forum.

Nice job Chris. Both you and
Nice job Chris. Both you and Richard point out it's hard to separate signal from noise with these numbers. There are lots of reasons to expect not 50% and lots of reasons for variance from team to team and player to player, but as a publicity whore, I just like to see my name in print even if it says I lean slightly toward a preference for men (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Interesting stat- posts on the gender blog skew 3-0 for men, yet only 11-2 for posts about Dune. Discuss.
The most common complaint I hear from women players is how long it takes for people to give them credit for their range of throws. I'm going deep next week every time Nina, Stacey, Wynne, or Aleks have the disc (until I get tired).

Mathematically fallacy
You can't normalize by multiplying by 4/5 for women and 3/2 for men since you are looking at total over long periods. What happens is that as the number of attempts get larger and larger (tend towards inifinity), the number of passes from one gender to another will approach their mathematically predicted ratios (which are Male -> Male 3/5, Male -> Female 2/5; Female -> Male 4/5, Female -> Male 1/5)
The statistics do the multiplication for you. There's no need to normalize.
Interestingly, this is what we observe for women, but not men. In fact, we see a higher proporation of passing going from male to female players than we would expect from random chance, suggesting that men are indeed looking to the women on the field.
EDIT: I wrote the above late last night and made a mistake. If men were throwing to players regardless of gender you would expect to see a 60/40 split. Instead we observe 66/33 meaning that men are indeed more likely to throw to another male player

More mathematical mistakes!
I think Keates made a few systematic errors in his analysis. In looking at his data, the following people throw the disc with no discernable evidence of gender discrimination (minimum 30 passes):
Laura Chambers Storey
Graham Brown
Chris Sullivan
Heather McCabe*
Nick Theriault*
Simon Berry*
Nick Vetvut
Trevor Stocki
Ryan Mussell
Additionally, Heather, Nick, and Simon throw the mathematically predicted amount to men and women (20% of passes from Laura go to women, 40% of passes from Nick and Simon go to women)

Is the Parity Stats Auditor a
Is the Parity Stats Auditor a paid position? Does this sort of outsourcing to foreign countries fit within the mandate of the league? Do we need an investigation into outside influence by agents of the TCUL?

Although I may have met with TCUL, I can tell you that those discussions did not involve Parity, nor potential sanctions against parity.

You haven't identified an error.
Your names exactly reflect the group of "about 50/50" people I highlighted.
