The Effectiveness Ratings are back!

Have you ever felt like your stellar performance wasn't quite captured in the stats? Have you ever grumbled about the turnover machines at the top of the salary leaderboards? Do you ever lament how little data analysis goes on in Parity League? Well have I got good news for you!

Back by popular demand, my player effectiveness ratings for 2019-20 Session 1 are now publicly available at: http://bit.ly/HMKParityRatingLeaderboard

The idea behind these ratings is to provide a more accurate and comprehensive assessment of player performance than the salary formula offers. Whereas salary rewards risky offense, my ratings put a greater emphasis on defensive performance and maintaining possession. Check out the link for a full explanation of the methodology.

The current leaders through the first half of the season are Alisha Zhao on the women's side and Brian Perry on the men's side. Based on a comparison of salary to effectiveness rating, the most undervalued woman is Deborah Murphy and the most undervalued man is Martin Shiu.

This is intended to be a fun addition to the league and not an exercise in shaming anyone. For that reason only the top half of players are publicly visible. If you're not on the leaderboard but would like to see how you stack up just let me know privately and I'll share that data with you.

Feedback is welcome! This is hardly a perfect system and I'm constantly tweaking the methodology (most recently based on some excellent insights from John Haig on how to measure involvement).

These player ratings are also the foundation of my game prediction algorithm. I'll post more about that in time for playoffs.

Enjoy!

Then he can have all the leaders and all the undervalued players #overlyunderrated
