Parity Recap : Week 7, Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.

As we all awaken on Christmas Morning, enjoying late breakfasts, our friends and family, and perhaps a surprise or two from Santa Claus, let us all take a moment to miss Parity Frisbee (it really is the gift that keeps on giving) and reminisce about the week that was....

First up for the week is a lovely Christmas poem, and if you haven't seen it yet, it can be found here. It's wonderful.

Sadly, I can't recall too many anecdotes from the week, but we do have a few notable to note!

Santa Brought Coal: Brian Kells' team had a loss to rival Jessie's 6-34 debacle. In an absolute trouncing of a game, his team lost 8-29. With neither stack nor flow, he just couldn't get his usual offense up and running, and in the second half demoralization set in. This is a roster much better than this outcome, and it is not the sort of game they are likely to repeat.

This is especially true now that Brian Perry has been traded to his team. Brian Kells doesn't need to ask him to sub, which eliminates one of the more hilarious points of contention so far this season.

For my part of the trade, I get Michael Colantonio, who many regard as the better Colantonio. Both brothers have been going through a bit of a renaissance this year, dialing down the turnovers and becoming almost unrecognizable players from years past. I am going to help Michael along in his transformation to help solidify his position as best Colantonio.

Good Kid List: Ken Maclean, Marcus Bordage and Martin all had 6 goals this week. What could they have done to earn so many gifts? Sully also had 5 which is an interesting stat-line for the handler extraordinaire. Ben Curran put up 4, and so did Celine Dumais! Susan Sunde Laser had 4. Nick Amlin (S) had 3, more than Nick Amlin only having 1, but I guess it counts as 4 so good work!

Delivering Gifts: Are you having a Christmas Party and do you need someone to come dressed as Santa Claus? May I recommend Hadrian (9A) or Rob Ives (8A)? In a pinch you can't go wrong with Alisha (6A), Heather Wallace (6A), or Jon Pindur (5A). Dan Thompson (4A) is also re-imagining his frisbee career as a handler, and he looks good in red hats and hosery so definitely give him a call.

Maximum Grinchitude: A few people are a little too good at stealing all the gifts from the poor little Whos in Whoville. Kelsey (5D) and Nick Theriault (5D) really need their hearts to grow a few sizes. Stephen Close (4D) is a bit of a meanie, and so was Simon Berry (3D). Jonny Champagne (2D) is normally a very nice fellow but he was having a difficult night so we can forgive him. Kate (2D) and Kevin (2D) are also experts at piracy, which is definitely not the reason for the season.

Naughty Kid List: Andrew Spearin (7T, 3TD, 1DR) and Mikey Davidson (7T, 1TD) earned themselves some coal with two of the more remarkably bad performances of the(ir) season. Cassie (4T), Laura (4T), and Geofford (4T) are definitely on the naughty list, and so is Higgins (4T).

Thankfully most of Parity knows to be good kids so close to Christmas!

Berry Christmas: To go with Spearin's very bad game he also missed out on a Berry by 1 goal. Susan Sunde got one, and so did Alisha. I'd have had one if I worked just a bit harder on D. Edwin Wong gets a Berry, as do Verbit and Will Reid. Such a very Berry Christmas!

CHRISTMAS STATS
  • Nick Amlin was worth 1 score, 6 turnovers and $8,500 very cheap dollars for his team. He was then worth 9 scores, 2 turnovers and a triple-triple putting up $124,000 for someone else's team. This guy has a conflict of identity, never knowing when to channel Krampus or Saint Nicholas!
  • Rob Tyson was a quiet 0/0/1/1 but was nearly perfect in the turnovers and a very efficient disk mover.
  • David O'Connor's first game was a 1/0/2/0, 3 turnover night which is pretty unheard of for him.
  • Hannah Dawson had an unbelievable (for her) 3 drops.
  • Giulian was perfect, with zero turns and a scoring event on 100% of his touches (!!!)
  • Alix Ranger scored 3 times with a very nice 3/0/1/0 game.
  • Very useful Matthew "Skynes" Schijns was a 2/1/1/0 kinda guy this week.
  • Jay Thor Pylon was a 2/0/2/0 performance with zero turnovers.
  • Jessie Robinson 2/1/1/0 with only 1 throwaway this week.
  • Mehmet only had 2 throwaways this week, meaning the number 1 and 2 spots on the throwaway leaderboard completely abdicated all responsibility for being irresponsible and I really, really frown upon this.
  • Will Leckie: 1/1/3/1 on 6 touches and zero turnovers.
  • Justine Price was 0/4/2/0 on 11 touches which means she created scoring with over 50% of her throws and also that her team needs to throw to her more.
  • Probe was zero turns on 27 throws!
  • Heather Wallace was an equally remarkable zero turnovers, given her tendency to PewPewPew!
  • Andrea Proulx was 1/2/4/1 with zero throwaways although she did try really hard with one of her hammers to me.
  • Simon Berry flirted with the Berry and the triple triple this week, with a spectacular 3/2/2/3 performance.
  • Martin Cloake actually got the triple triple with a 6/4/0/3 evening.

Special thanks as always to the volunteers (give them a hug and probably also a gift some point this season) who make Parity happen, and special thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to send me anecdotes to talk about in my write ups.

And of course, Merry Christmas! Everyone get fat on turkey and stuffing (except for my team - strict diet, come out lean and mean in the new year) and enjoy the time off! Only two more weeks to Parity's return in 2018!

Graham Brown really did show up in a Santa suit. He played the first half of the game in it!

We really dropped the ball and the disc in that game! If you can't beat em, trade for em. Rob Ives and Brian Perry will be great additions to our lineup.
