Was anyone else on the edge of their seats (sidelines) watching the playoffs at the dome this week? I sure was, at least for a few of them. Some pretty crazy things happened. Let's recap!
Menace vs. Save Kindha: This game was a nail-biter. I encourage you to go look at the games page for it. If you scroll down to the 11-15 point, you will see the exact moment Heather Godding went Super Saiyan. Of the next 15 points, Heather Godding was directly involved in 7 of them, with a second assist and a D thrown in for good measure. Heather helped her team claw back from a 4 point deficit to eventually seal out a 2 point win.
To reiterate, Heather Wallace was 5/6/1/2 for the night, putting up the night's second most expensive performance, and she did most of it in only 15 points of play time (2/7/1/1).
Amazing.
The Sticklers vs. 2,4,6,8: This game was... honestly not that compelling. It was a bit of a blowout. There's a few notable facts from it. 11 of the first 20 points were breaks. 2,4,6,8 went on an 11 point run in the middle of the game to establish an 18-4 lead.
The game has also revealed a really interesting bug in the Parity app where the games view may report a score like 24-16 for 2,4,6,8, but the score of the final point is listed as 27-13 for 2,4,6,8 (also, what is with a timestamp of 1:8? What does it mean?!). Pretty sure Kevin Hughes has math shenanigans going on in the background to help sooth the sting of such a complete disaster of a game.
Sultimate vs. Pirateless Ruddership: This game ends 23-15 for Sultimate, but there is a moment in the game where the most remarkable thing happened. The league's shortest woman (probably) got a D in the air against the world's tallest man. That's right, everyone's favorite spritely GM Kate Achtell D'd Martin in the air!
Rumour has it the disk went up to Martin in the end zone, chest high (for him, but for Kate that's out of arms reach), and it looked like a sure goal. Out of nowhere comes Kate, slashing across the front of the endzone before leaping for the disk and tipping it away at the last minute. Martin, confused as to what happened, stared at his hands while Kate scampered up field to make another play. The sidelines of that game as well as the 10:00 pm game went bonkers.
Pirateless Ruddership lost but this one shining moment will live on forever. People will always be asking, "Where were you when the league's shortest girl D'd the world's tallest man?" So, where were you? Like, comment, subscribe below, etc.
As for me, I was busy playing....
Huck and Hope v. Stack Over Flow: Honestly, people should have stayed up to watch this game, it was a complete nail-biter. Each team put up a few runs to get a solid lead, only for the other team to claw back into it. The most common score the entire game was "tied" (the score was evens, 13 different times in the game). Here's how close the statlines for the teams were:
Huck and Hope: 7 D's, 170 completions, 13 throw aways, 6 drops.
Stack o' Flow: 6 D's, 184 completions, 13 throw aways, 6 drops.
Including ties, the lead changed 26 times.
In the last minute of the game, with Stack Over Flow up 21-20 and Huck on offense and needing to score to send the game to Universe, Hadrian found Alisha in the end zone with less than 5 seconds to go before hard cap. The clock ticked over to 11:20, and it was officially last point, universe, for all the marbles, in a playoff game.
Starting on O to win the game, Brian Kell's team decided to put the game in the hands of his stars that had taken him so far all season. Newly acquired Brian Perry aired it up to Hannah streaking to the end zone, and the sideline quieted. Everyone held their breath as it looked like the disk would stall just enough to stay in, and speedy Hannah was sure to bring it down. It hangs, she bids... and the disk is out of her range by inches.
Working it down the other way, Huck gets to the end zone, but Hadrian is trapped on the sideline at the cone, one of the most difficult spots to score from. I'm busy running squirrel cuts in the same corner and he's got no options. He bails to Fred, who dishes it to me in the middle and I look up to see Alisha with room on the break space. I loft up a scoober, Hannah closes the gap, they both go up for it!
Arrested Development Narrator: Chris knew that Alisha has a lot of practice catching scoobers. Her relationship with Leon, a man long known to throw everything upside down in indoor, has given her many hours of practice.
Floating inches above Hannah's hands the disk dropped into Alisha's. Catch, goal, game.
This was a game decided by a few seconds and a few inches. Phenomenal.
Unofficial Sully Watch: I called out Sully last week for being on the wrong side of two categories. This week, he responded. 6 dimes, 2 throw aways on 40 attempts, for the league's highest salary. I have two thoughts on this:
1. This makes more sense.
2. Did I accidentally make Sully try hard, and jeopardize my spot above him on the assists leaderboard?
NOTABLES:
Special shout out to this week's only monument to mediocrity, John Haig. He has the only Berry.
Nick Theriault who thrived under Al's captaincy had a league leading 9 throw aways. This performance vaulted Nick from off the leaderboard for the season to 4th.
Mehmet had relatively few throw aways this week, but still leads the league with 37. T-minus 2 games to them officially being "teachable moments."
Everyone's favorite Armenian, Aggy, had 8/1/0/3 with zero turnovers.
Lauren Ellis also had 5 goals meaning mighty women Heather and Lauren were 50% of the offence for Menace this week.
Laura Storey was a monster, 4/1/1/2 and 104k.
Marie-Ange Gravel had 4 goals!
Kristyn Berquist had 3 goals on 3 catches, for 100% offense on every touch! Maybe next week she'll be 10 for 10! Make it happen, Cassie.
Special thanks as always to the volunteers who make it all happen. We should all be more like them. So sign up to volunteer!
Also, thanks to the fans who write me and tell me about hilarious things. Please send me anecdotes to write about. Oh God, I'm so desperate for funny things to share!

Katie is a beast!
I'm not surprised she D-ed Martin. Don't let her constant smile and small stature fool you. That girl will run through D the living heck out of you. I suspect their love of D's is what brought Katie and Kelsey together.

don't remind me
I hate being reminded of that game Keates! Surely Huck and Hope will go on to win the league now.

We have a rather menacing opponent to overcome, first.
Then either a math joke or a fight club.

Valiant efforts...
I was pleased with my teammates' efforts in a losing cause in semifinal #1. With playoff sparing rules in effect our group of 6M/3F (with Kevin Hughes sparing and sparing well!) ran hard but couldn't deal with a very talented Academy. It was looking good at 10/11, but an early second half run sealed the differential for the rest of the game.
Meanwhile on a personal note bless NickTherialt is allI I have to say! But seriously early in the season he played very well in beating my team, throwing touch lefty backhands for points, earning a monstrous $178K in week 5. Since the trade to a certain swashbuckling team there's a certain trend in throwaways that is difficult to ignore, but I certainly appreciate given my previous position on a certain leaderboard. And to be clear my throwaways in week 11 (and most of them in the season) were teachable moments only in that my opponents have already learned where to go and therefore they fully are my errors, as nice as it is for various podcast guests to make excuses for me.

Editors Note: The score was 24-16. Some of the points in the tally are Sticklers players attributed to the Even team.
