Player Guidelines

Ultimate is a sport based on respect for ones opponent, for one's teammates and oneself. As such, no officials are present during games. This means that all players must take responsibility for their own actions on the field. The following guidelines have been developed to inform players of their responsibilities.

Players

  • Must be registered and have signed the OCUA liability waiver form prior to playing.
  • Must wear footwear that will allow them to play the sport in a safe fashion
    • Cleated footwear must not use metal spikes
    • While non-cleated footwear (i.e. running shoes) are permitted, they are not recommended as they may lead to injury.
  • Are expected to be on time and to prevent delays in starting a game
  • Are expected to play with due caution on the field and to try and prevent any collisions or harmful physical contact with other players
  • Are expected to minimize incidents of taunting and dangerous play both for themselves and their teammates
    • For extreme or repeated violations of either of the two previous points, a player may face disciplinary action as outlined in the Disciplinary Guidelines.
  • Are expected to know all the current version of Ultimate Rules being used by OCUA and any OCUA specific rules
  • Are expected to be pro-active in stopping play if the fields are too wet, have standing water or are being torn up due to play
  • Are responsible for demonstrating, encouraging and promoting SOTG to their team

Junior Players & Adult League Exemptions

OCUA offers programming for children, teen, and adult players. Junior players who are 16 years or older may join adult teams provided they are accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult who is playing on the same team. Junior players under this age, but no younger than 14 may also play in an adult league provided they have approval from a parent and their coach's recommendation. For Junior Player Adult League Exemption, please contact the OCUA office for the process details.
