Week 4

Wynne and Mike Lee had an Improbable Catch competition last night. It was fun to watch.

Brent Burton and Trevor Ryan had a Scowl-Off last night. It was fun to watch.

I subbed in for Stan Kent in the second half of a close game, only to have four throwaways and two drops. It was not fun to watch.

Were there any good things that happened last night?

-Higgins with a basket of assists, throws from the knees, scowls, fouls, and (what else rhymes with scowls?) Owls?...bowels? trowels?

BOD thrilled the crowd (Al) with a dizzying array of points ranging from the exceptionally "pretty to watch", to the "can't look away from this trainwreck".

The combined curmudgeonry of Brent Burton, Rich Gregory and Martin Cloake could not break the Redblack Spiril of BOD who put in a true team effort with the whole team touching the disc...sometimes that touching was inappropriate... but everyone got in there.

All I know is there is a distinct lack of side line heckling. Members of the gallery, where are you? New members accepted, drop-in format always available, no punch card needed.

While warming up for the late game, Dan Thompson could be heard chirping in the far corner (literally chirping, coz you couldn't make out a word from that distance). Geofford stuck around for the middle game as a stand alone. Bravo, sir, bravo.

I'm chucking up bombs to the other team and all I hear are sighs from my team mates and crickets.

P.S. Props to Al last night, for sticking around to do stats with Heather McCabe. Thanks to both of you.

I thought about this on the way home and my brain tells me that early in the past two seasons it was quiet as well. People need to learn who's who before laying on the snark.

I presume the atmosphere will improve as the season goes on.

The pre-emptive self heckle is very strong this year.  I put up a terrible sky blade this week and before I could blame Al for it he had already chirped in and taken credit for teaching me that move.

If our salaries were based on quality (and quantity) of heckles, Geofford would be this week's Owen Lumley. I'd say he would have had more goals than Jim Robinson in week 3.

Or maybe they're like throwaways and Geofford is the new Jessie Robinson? Does it depend on the quality of the heckle?

But I digress....

How are we supposed to compete with Geofford, Justine? It just doesn't seem worth it anymore. I left after my game because the standard of heckle has been set. The bar is too high.

Bush and you other stats nuts - where is the statistical analysis of the effect that Geofford's heckles have on the spirits of offensive players?

Well done, Geofford. I appreciate your "there's no "o" in Ninja" and "Wynne would have caught that". Keep making the rest of us look bad.

I would like to take partial credit for Wynne catching clinic since, you know, athletic catching could not exist without questionable throwing which I am doing plenty of these days :-(

You make it sound as if there was a time when your throwing wasn't questionable :p
