PLFL Session 2

Parity League Fantasy League (C) 2017 is nearly over! It's time for PLFL 2: The <insert tagline here!>

Do you like frisbee? Are you interested in your friends making money for you? Then join PLFL, the only Parity League Fantasy League sponsored by Amos.

Highlights include:

- Statistics!

- Ragging on Newman!

- Keates perceived injustices!

- Amos!

Session 2 will move to a pick'em league. Each week you will pick 3 men and 2 women and the combination of women that will get you the most points will be your score!

(Example: Suppose you pick Amos, Lamos, and Loser-Amos as men and Laura CS and Alisha as women. The scores are Amos (5), Lamos (5) and Loser-Amos (0); LAura CS (5) and Alisha (5), then your score would be 20, ignoring Loser-Amos. Conversely, suppose the scores are Amos (5), Lamos (5), Loser-Amos (100); Laura CS (5) and Alisha (4), then your score would be 115, ignoring Alisha.)

Scoring will be:

GOAL: 3 POINTS

ASSIST: 2 POINTS

D: 1.5 POINTS

COMPLETION: 0.1 POINTS

INCOMPLETE: -0.5 POINTS

DROP: -0.5 POINTS

WOW!: 3 POINTS

OMG!: -2.5 POINTS

be worth just as much (or more!) as a goal, in PLFL and in the real life.

Also, would love to get a recap of PLFL season 1

  • A draft happened and nothing really notable happened except that Bush forgot Jim Robinson, Al Colantonio, and someone else (I forget) off the draft board. There was a sporadic day-long argument about it that was mostly Amos and I trolling and Bush getting annoyed. This became known as the Jimquisition.
  • Greg Ellis's injury cost Mike Lee (EDIT: Amos, actually) his first rounder and was a really big moment in the league. Rumours that another talented fish may be swimming into the Parity sea (Lance) prompted both Mike and Amos to perform roster shenanigans to remain bad and have first shot at Lance. It worked, for Mike. Amos was stuck with Newman.
  • Christopher Castonguay drafted talented women very early (Hannah, Dom) which was a winning strategy until they stopped showing up consistently. I've now heard that Dom has a pretty bad injury, which I really hope she recovers from soon.
  • 90% of the league is a slack channel that is 80% Amos, 18% bullshit and 2% people being angry at the league.
  • Jon Rowe drafted a good team that never does well and has been in last place for almost the entire run of the league (except for the delibera-bad Mike Lee when he was gunning for Lance). He's currently got a points for/points against ratio of 553/786.
  • Laura has alternately had her muse, her inspiration, her idol, Justine Price, and her bae, Mikey Davidson on her roster. This makes her happy, which makes her pun a lot in the slack channel.
  • The best slack channel post, as voted on by me just now in this thread and I totally didn't write it so this isn't just me ego tripping (a reference to why old people don't bid):
It's ten percent suck,
Twenty percent swill,
Fifteen percent concentrated failure of will,
Five percent slowness,
Fifty percent quit,
And a hundred percent being too old for this shit.
  • Mike Lee has abandoned the slack channel entirely, but not his team.
  • Jay Thor Turner, who has a nickname of "pylon" for reasons that aren't actually mean, joined the league midseason. He was taken off the waitlist by someone else because I screwed up. I then traded a good player for him just so I could bench him then heckle him at a frisbee game about it.

There's been at least a few good story lines this year. One involves me... Bush hates this story but I think it's funny.

There hasn't been much trading in the season so far, so rosters have been fairly stagnant. If you follow up on 5, Jon once kvetched that he was so bad and out of the playoffs, he should just trade his players away for food to be funny. PLFL is all about the lulz, I've heard. So I offered him a bottle of wine and Jay Thor for Higgins, to which he said sure. Bush, league commish, said no because that's an unfair trade to the rest of the league (probably true). I asked if Brian Kells would be an acceptable trade for Higgins and Bush said yes.

So I went to Laura, who had Kells, and traded Mikey and Josee for Kells and Justine, then told Bush I was flipping Kells to Jon for Higgins (plus bottle of wine sweetener!). Jon never confirmed, and Bush said no again, which was hilarious because it led to... Brian Kells not dressing this week, me not shuffling my roster around to address it, and me having big ol' zeroes across the board for him. Which was great because I was playing Geofford, who has me on his roster, and I had a pretty good week. I lost to myself in the semi-final round by less than the average of what Kells usually does in a week, in a sense all because I tried to game the system with Jon Rowe. Hoisted by my own petard.

Jon, come see the finals this week, I'll have your bottle of wine for you so we can photo op for the slack channel.

Pretty sure Amos picked Greg first, I picked Reesh in my first pick.

And not the made up history that exists only in my mind.

Kevin Hughes's picture

not all Ds are equal though. Sure a D from a smart or athletic play is worth more than a goal but sometimes the other team just throws it at the defender.

Pretty sure Mike has abandoned the league as he didn't even know I won the "Best Lee in PLFL" award against him in playoffs last week.

What's the commitment level of this league?

Do I have to spend a lot of time with Amos?

What kind of OMGs or WOWs were rewarded last session?

1. as much or as little as you want

2. as much or as little as you can tolerate

3. bids, layouts, skies, remarkable plays, etc. are WOW moments. OMG! moments are a bit more rare, but include turfs, easy drops, or anything that generally draws groans from the sideline. Me pulling it out of bounds every time I try is worth an OMG a week!

I am good for at least one WOW as it is literally my namesake.  Literally.

I am starting you so can you make it 2 this week?
